KARACHI: Former chief justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui was sworn in as the new governor of Sindh in a ceremony held at Governor House on Friday.

Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Syed Sajjad Ali Shah administered the oath to Justice Siddiqui, as Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan’s 14-year tenure, which was the longest tenure of a governor in the country’s history, came to a close.

After administering the oath, CJ Shah extended greeting to Governor Siddiqui on his new assignment. He was followed by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who was seated with Governor Siddiqui at the central table on his right hand.

The ceremony, conducted by Chief Secretary Mohammad Siddique Memon, was attended besides judges of the high court, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and provincial ministers, secretaries, other high officials and a large number of notables of the city.

However, Justice Siddiqui, who was scheduled to visit the Mazar of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah soon after the swearing ceremony of his office, could not make it, because the mausoleum management requested him to put off the visit amid the ongoing repair and renovation work at the Mazar.
