NEW YORK: In the final NBC news and Wall Street Journal poll released on Sunday, Hillary Clinton holds a four-point lead over Donald Trump. Polls also predict that Democrats could regain control of the senate.

Clinton has support from 44 per cent of likely voters, while Trump from 40 per cent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is at six per cent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein is at two per cent, a report said.

The NBC news noted Clinton’s current lead over Trump is down from the 11-point edge she enjoyed in the four-way horserace in the previous NBC/WSJ poll in mid-October, 48pc to 37pc.

That poll was conducted after 2005 video of Trump surfaced in which he was heard saying “you can do anything” to women when you are a star like he is.

The pollsters are also projecting that the Democrats could regain control of the US senate by wining 50 seats while Republicans could hold on to 48 votes.

In a two-way contest last month, Clinton’s lead was 10 points, 51pc to 41pc.

This latest poll — conducted from Nov 3 to 5 of more than 1,200 likely voters — comes after the letter FBI Director James Comey sent to Congress on Oct 28 saying that the FBI had “learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent” to the investigation of Clinton.

Clinton maintains double-digit lead with women, the poll said and that fact combined with the support of the Latino and African American votes could give her the much needed 270 electoral votes.

Looking inside the numbers of the two-way horserace, Clinton is ahead of Trump among women (53pc to 38pc), African Americans (86pc to 7pc), Latinos (65pc to 20pc) and those ages 18-34 (55pc to 32pc), the poll said.
