JHANG: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested two alleged terrorists each from Jhang and Multan.

In an operation near Malhowana, 20km from here on Jhang-Bhakkar road on Thursday night, the department arrested two suspects and seized 7kg of explosives from their possession.

CTD Deputy Superintendent of Police Ausaf Safdar Wahla told reporters that the department’s Jhang chapter on receiving tip-off regarding the presence of alleged terrorists launched an operation near Malhowana and arrested two suspects -- Muhammad Shoaib and Ejaz Karim.

When bags they were carrying were searched police recovered 7kg explosives, nine non-electronic detonators and three meter fuse.

The arrested suspects were stated to be members of a defunct outfit, according to Wahla, and were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

MULTAN: Security forces arrested two suspected terrorists in a joint operation from SP Chowk in the Cantonment police precincts here on Friday.

The CTD arrested two suspects on their way in a car. One of their accomplices managed to escape. The arrested were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan was authorised four separate inquiries against officers and officials of food and revenue departments on charges of embezzlement and cheating in procurement of wheat and issuance of gunny bags in Multan, Khanewal, Vehari and Lodhran district.

According to an official handout issued by the NAB Multan, the suspects were together involved in corruption in purchase of wheat and distribution of gunny bag as they were collecting 1kg and 2kg extra wheat on each bag of 50kg and 100kg, respectively, purchased for the government.

NAB Director General retired Brig Farooq Nasir Awan said food and revenue officers and officials will not be allowed to deprive poor farmers of their rights and hard-earned money.
