New hockey coach arrives

KARACHI, Dec 9: Newly-hired hockey coach Roelant Oltmans arrived here on Tuesday to join Pakistan squad busy playing a triangular series.

Along with Oltmans, goalkeeping coach Ronald Jensen also reached here in the early hours. Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has signed contracts with the Dutchmen with an intention to lift the sagging hockey fortunes.

Oltmans is the second coach from the Netherlands as Hans Jorritsma coached the Lahore 1994 Champions Trophy and Sydney World Cup-winning squads.

The new coach has signed a one-year contract with the PHF and will be at helm until 2004 Athens Olympics.

Jensen’s services has been acquired to explore talent in the goalkeeping department which needs fresh blood.

Meanwhile, Lt-Col Dr Mirza Yousuf Baig has joined the senior side as team doctor.
