TOBA TEK SINGH: Renowned football coach died here at the age of 96 after a protracted illness.

Agha Muhammad Khalid Ludhianvi was born in Ludhiana, India, in 1920. He represented Ludhiana in different football tournaments in India before migrating to Pakistan after the partition.

When he revisited India in 1963, he was asked to play for Ludhiana against Delhi football team. Due to his performance, Ludhiana won that match.

He was asked by his uncle, former Indian Punjab minister late Maulana Habibur Rehman Ludhianvi (who did not migrate), to stay in India and work for the promotion of the game but he preferred to return since he was a coach in a government school in Toba. He coached a large number of players. Out of them 35 played for football teams of army, navy, railways and police at the national level. He did not marry and kept training youngsters till 2000. He was laid to rest in Gausha graveyard.

Quran khawani will be held on Wednesday (today) at 9am at his residence in Janjghar Street.
