NAWABSHAH, Dec 8: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar here on Monday announced a Rs50 million development package for Nawabshah district.

Speaking at a public gathering at Masjid Road here, he also announced that a subway would be constructed beneath the railway line in the city and a degree college in Daulatpur.

Thirty thousand educated youth would soon be provided jobs in the provincial government departments on the basis of merit, the chief minister said.

He declared that his government would never compromise on any project against the interests of Sindh and agree to only those projects which were approved with the consent of the people of four provinces.

Mr Mahar said that his coalition government was working smoothly and making all-out efforts to resolve problems of the people.

He said that he had taken drastic steps to eliminate corruption from each government department and challenged that nobody could prove that he was involved in corruption.

Emphasizing the need for education, he said that it was the need of the hour that every child of Sindh, including girls, should get educated to face the challenges of the time and play a role in development of the country.

In furtherance of the objective, education from class-1 to 10 had been made free, he said.

Mr Mahar said that high tariff of electricity was one of the major problem of the people as it was almost impossible for them to afford it.

He said that on the directives of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, a coal power station was going to be established in Tharparkar after the completion of which the power tariff would be reduced by 50 per cent.

He said that his government did not believe in political victimization and was working for the people of Sindh without any discrimination.

He said that ASIs were sacked and doctors and agriculture officers were appointed on contract basis in the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) governments and his government had reinstated the ASIs and regularized the services of others.

The chief minister said that teachers sacked in 1998 would also be reinstated very soon.

He announced that technical education institutes would be established in each taluka of Sindh to provide technical education to youth so that they could get jobs.

Referring to reports of flour shortage in Sindh cities, he said that strict action would be taken against the profiteers and they would be sent to jail.

The chief minister also announced a Rs500,000 grant for the Nawabshah Press Club.

Earlier, he visited the People’s Medical College Hospital where he inaugurated the intensive care unit, emergency ward and incinerator.

He announced that two ambulances and two dialysis units would be provided to the PMCH.

No MNA, MPA, district and taluka Nazim were present on the occasion.

Later, Mr Mahar left the city to attend a lunch to be hosted in his honour by Syed Shaukat Shah in the Khair Shah village, a tea party to be hosted by former education minister Khan Mohammad Dahri in Daulatpur and a PML-Q workers meeting at the residence of Ali Ahmed Shah Lakyari.
