Unmanned PAF aircraft crashes near Mianwali

LAHORE: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) crashed near Mianwali on Monday.

A PAF spokesman confirmed the UAV was on a routine training mission when it crashed.

No loss of life or property has been reported as yet, he said.

A Board of Enquiry was ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the crash.

This is the second PAF aircraft which has crashed over the past week. PAF Flight Lieutenant Omer Shahzad died in an air crash in Khyber Agency's Jamrud tehsil on Saturday when the F-7PG he was flying encountered a technical fault and crashed.

Pakistan should understand that India and Pakistan both are losing money by procuring high end defense equipment. This money should be utilized for betterment of their own people. Pakistan shall dismantle terror infrastructure and India should resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogues.

Bangladesh is a burning example of what a country could do in terms of progress when it does not need to spend billions on arms and nuclear weapons. BIMSTEC (Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal) is a burning example of how to move forward. UAV crashes are a norm all over the world. They are unreliable, even the US loses a large chunk every year.

In previous week US lost 2 UAVs and Russian lost 1 in Syrian battleground. Blaming Chinese "manufacturing" is unwise. UAV technology is still evolving and most of the time Ground control/pilots are not versed enough to understand all the necessary control and feedback issues. Hopefully investigation will discover the technical root cause and PAF/manufacturer will improve the checklist controls.
