BAHAWALPUR: A science and technology university equipped with the-state-of-the-art facilities will soon be established in Bahawalpur.

This was stated by Minister of State for Education Baleeghur Rehman while presiding over a meeting in connection with a proposal to set up “Bahawalpur Institute of Science and Technology” having a university status held at the Commissioner Office.

Commissioner Saqib Zafar, DCO Dr Ehtasham Anwar Mahar, HEC director Dr Mazhar Hussain, Engineering College principal Dr Muhammad Amjad, development and planning director Saqib Ali and others were also present.

According to an official handout issued here on Friday, the state minister directed the divisional, district administration and HEC officials to expedite the process of project’s blueprint.

The HEC director said the approval for the charter of the university would soon be secured from the Punjab government and classes in it would be ensured from the next academic year.

The DCO briefed the meeting about the possible land acquisition and its location for the proposed university and suggested opening the solar energy department in it as well.

The minister said the promotion of modern education of the present day needs and requirements was the priority of the government.

He said a comprehensive planning had been made to provide the young generation an access to acquire higher education.

He said that subjects in accordance with the needs of science, technology and requirements of the global market would be introduced in universities.

The minister expressed the hope that the proposed science and technology institute/university in Bahawalpur would impart education of international standard to the youth of this region.

The commissioner assured the minister that the project of the proposed university, if approved, and other uplift projects in the division would be completed expeditiously.
