MIANWALI: A secondary schoolteacher of Govt High School for Boys, Husainwala, was shot dead allegedly by a student of class X from the same school, 10km from here, on Friday.

Teacher Samar Abbas Uttra was on his way home after school on his motorcycle when he was intercepted by the student whom he identified in the hospital as Hafiz Bilal Khan, who took out a 12-bore gun and shot at Uttra.

The teacher was rushed to Mianwali DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122 where he died after some time. The culprit threw the gun on the spot and fled from the scene.

The reason behind the shooting could not be determined till the filing of this report.

A large number of students and teachers of the school reached the hospital. They protested against the alleged murder and demanded arrest of the culprit as well as security for teachers. They also shouted slogans against the government.

The protest was led by Malik Ahmad Khan, president of the teachers association of Mianwali tehsil.

District Police Officer Sadiq Ali Dogar also reached the DHQ Hospital with his force to avoid any untoward incident and promised the enraged students and teachers that the culprit would be arrested soon.

On his assurance, the protesters dispersed.

A police team from the Saddar police station has started a search for the student.
