ISLAMABAD: A recent report tabled in the Senate shows that 1,920 criminal cases were reported during March to May this year, including 30 murder and 31 attempted murder cases.

In a written reply to a question asked by Senator Syed Shibli Faraz of PTI, the interior ministry said 48 kidnapping for rape cases were also registered but 20 of them stood withdrawn because they could not be proved.

The ministry’s document further shows that 64 robbery, 32 armed robbery and 203 theft cases were also reported in the federal capital.

The upper house was further informed that 25 kidnapping for ransom cases were also registered during this period. As many as 133 vehicles were stolen from the capital. Five cases of rape were also registered.

As many as 17 incidents of violence against women and 29 cases of illegal occupation of land and houses were also registered.

During March to May 2016 as many as 313 cases of immoral activities were registered.

A senior official of federal police, who is not authorized to speak on record, said since the interior ministry has been ensuring that cases were registered on every application, it looks that the crime rate has increased.

“We have very good recovery rate of the stolen items and arresting the culprits as compared to other areas of the country,” he claimed.
