MURREE: Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday said well-to-do people should help the government overcome problems in educational institutions in remote areas.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the new blocks of Government Degree College Murree.

The Oil and Gas Development Company and the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Company provided scholarships to the talented and needy students besides establishing a water filtration plant, a common room for girl students and library in the college.

The minister assured the participants that a sports complex would also be set up in the college.

He asked the students and faculty members to produce good results in the examinations, adding the government would provide them every facility.

On behalf of the provincial minister for labour and manpower Raja Aashfaq Sarwar, his brother Raja Atiq Sarwar promised that soon a residential block for the teaching faculty would be constructed to retain the teachers in the college, who prefer to leave due to residential problems in the resort town.

Khaqan Abbasi distributed prizes among the position holders in the board and university examinations.

He also said the educational expenditure of every student showing good performance would be borne by the government.

The minister also visited the Government Girls College Murree and promised to bear the educational expenditures of the needy students.

Later, the minister visited the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and ordered the construction of residences for specialist doctors.

The minister told this correspondent that soon the construction of a state-of-the-art children and gyne hospital would be started in the area.

He said the university, which was announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, would be constructed at Kuldanna.
