Gas discovered in Ghotki

Published September 8, 2016

ISLAMABAD: A petrol and gas exploration firm on Wednesday announced discovery of gas in Ghotki district of Sindh.

Mari Petroleum Company said that the discovery of gas at a combined rate of 10.866 mmscfd would augment the national grid with additional volumes which in turn will help in mitigating the energy shortage in the country.

Shahbaz-1 well, spud-in on July 22 this year, had been successfully drilled down to the depth of 1,180-metre into Sui main limestone.

The discovery will further enhance the Mari Petroleum Company’s success rate.

The well was drilled with the objective to test the hydrocarbon potentials of the Sui Main Limestone, and Sui Upper Limestone.
