ISLAMABAD: Former captain Rashid Latif, while laying severe criticism on Azhar Ali-led Pakistan for their below par performance against England last night, said that the hosts were ‘still 20 to 30 runs short’.
In a post-match analysis show on PTV Sports, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper said the selection committee opted for an imbalanced squad for the ongoing tour of England.
Eoin Morgan-led England tormented Pakistan’s bowling line-up to record highest-ever One-Day International (ODI) score of 444 in the third of the five-match series.
Commenting on England’s total, Rashid said: “In my opinion, England were 20 to 30 runs short as their batsmen had gotten tired by spanking boundaries. They may go on to score more than 444 in the remaining two matches.”
However, Rashid saw a silver lining in the defeat.
“Had England put up 300 and Pakistan lost the match by 50, it would not have had such an impact. With such a heavy drubbing, there are chances of changes in Pakistan cricket.”
Expressing his displeasure on Pakistan’s poor show at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds said: “England’s outclass show displayed how the ODI cricket is played. Each and every individual’s role is defined in the team. They put themselves in such a position from where they could attack.”
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made drastic changes in their ranks following England’s premature exit from the 2015 World Cup which has made them most successful unit since March, last year.
Rashid further said that Pakistan selection committee is treating fast-bowler Mohammad Amir like they had with Mohammad Irfan, which resulted in latter’s injury.
“Amir is making a return after five years. He has been utilised in four Tests, then he was made to play against Ireland to win the contest. He is being treated in a similar manner as Irfan. He was played everywhere in the world in every format. Sharjah, Dubai, Chichawatni, he played everywhere. But when he fell, did anyone lift him?”
Rashid revealed that he had suggested to Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shehryar Khan against appointing Azhar Ali as the national side’s captain, but he proceeded with the appointment and now the whole country is regretting his decision.

I think pak one day team needs a long rest. They are not at the International teams level now. Constantly playing with players selection and batting order has broken the team spirit. This team should stand down or it might lose to Afghanistan and Ireland too in future. RIP pak cricket. At least I am stopping following pak cricket and wasting my time.

Shoaib Malik,Azhar Ali and Hafeez do not belong in one day teams. Besides Azhar, the other two have no role in any format for Pakistan.
At the moment,i only see Sarfaraz and Muhammad Amir as permanent one sayers. Others are just not up tp par.

We all know Azhar Ali was the wrong choice for captain and decision was made in a rush just to make sure Sarfraz won't become the captain as former players and media had started backing him up. I think Sarfraz didn't get the job because he is from Karachi I know it's a bitter truth. We all see how Rameez Raja was criticizing his captaincy throughout PSL and his team was keep wining. My humble request to PCB is for God sake don't play with Pakistan cricket. When everyone is getting paid top salaries with all benefits then why not be fair to your job you are getting paid for.

I believe it is better to get young guys and give them a long run , regardless of the results, rather then persisting with seniors who may have been performing better in Tests.
These shambolic losses will reflect on their Test form as well and will end up loosing their form.

It has taken the test team close to six years to get back on its feet. How long will the one day team take to get back to the top three? My guess is around 5 years. Participation in the next world cup is in serious down.
Honest, dedicated and competent people like Rashid Latif should be appointed to stop the rot.

I have found some ex Pakistani cricketers ALWAYS repeat ALWAYS criticising after Pakistan loses even when the series is still underway to dent the morale of the team for the remaining matches and I do not want to name all of them being of Indian origin but then I am also a genuine cricket lover and cannot keep quiet. These ex cricketers have all the right to criticise to their hearts content and ipso facto whether the criticism is valid or not; but at least let the series get over or if so concerned about their country's performance; let them go to the country and advise the players in private and boost their sagging morale instead of publicly criticising the cricket players in media. In this case; Rashid Latif should know that Pakistan team is facing unforeseen circumstances for last few years which the Pak team never faced during his times and there is a way even to criticise in a constructive manner & not play untimely politics.

My question: Karachi players have to wait 3 to 6 years before they are given ANY chance. Case in point: Sarfaraz Ahmad.

Mind you it's not that I am not disgusted by the team's worse than pathetic performance but what purpose is served when these ex-cricketers criticize when the series is ongoing? It's not like the team can be changed in the middle of the tour?

Indeed, Azhar Ali is not a BEST choice for Pakistan squad keeping in view fewer options. The only choice we have right now is Sarfaraz Ahmed but the issue/point here is we haven't seen his captaincy in the International T20 format after PCB promoted him as a captain. I wish we could have Captain like Imran, Miandad, Wasim, Rashid etc. Hope for the best.

remove Hafiz, Azhar Ali, Shoaib Malik immediately from the one day squad.

Take things in you own hands (to all the so-called yesteryear stalwarts) and draw up a plan to pressurize the (failed) Administration to overhaul the system/team to fit the present day requirements of the limited-overs formats. Or, just keep mum since we all know there are 'deaf' ears out there. The fans are dejected, just as the 'experts' are, but, do we have any choice but to hope for the best?

It is not the performance by the players that has brought us this embarrassment, it is the lack of performance by the selectors, team managers, coaches, trainers and their damned chamchas, who really see the trip as an expense paid vacation, and exactly live up to that expectation. Next trip out anywhere try sending the players only with the captain serving as manager, coach, selector and trainer.

@Omar - Karachi is under-16 and under-19 champion. Karachi white and blue has been winners of the domestic championship more times than any other team. If no one from Karachi is selected even in the 35 for training camps and 22 for the A-team, how can these players show their talent. Inzimam has a history of ignoring Karachi players. Asif Kamal and Fawad Alam are two examples. Anwar Ali and Khalid latif have won matches on their own. M. Sami is a better bowler than Umar Gul.

@Tariq Laeeq - Sarfaraz was sent as a replacement for injured Adnan Akmal, he was never selected in any Pakistan team. Its a matter of time but PSL will bring out the good players. Pakistan needs a selector who thinks Pakistan not Punjab.

Now what is next...??? has the PCB chairman admitted that he has learnt his lesson and will not make the same mistakes in PCB, has Inzee admitted his mistakes, has all the coaches admitted their mistakes with the Pakistan ODI team...then comes the team boys and the captain..Everyone needs to admit and the correction process should start to save the cricket in Pakistan and take the right direction...Please stop the blame game...

I have seen enough comments and doom mongering. That match was on the WORST pitch ever. We gave away runs because there was nothing to bowl. But we could have used experience to contain them to par score of the ground, which is 380 this year.
Pakistan simply caved in under pressure and to some extent poor captaincy. Most upper order batsmen threw their wickets away, even Sherjeel, who was well set. This is where it gets annoying that we did not have an experienced captain to take control of the situation and Azhar's inexperience and lack of leadership was clearly exposed. Its time we change the captain and also bring back Ahmed Shehzad, to give a bit more fire power to the opening stand. He is far better than Hafeez, at least and his stats speak for themselves.

@Rahul USA. Bowling was not too bad. It was fielding that cost Pakistan the match. And the pitch was flat. Once the option makes high score you cannot do much. You loose wickets in second innings to maintain the run rate. I believe there is not much problem with the players. They will develop self confidence once they win couple of matches. I loved 3rd ODI and I felt Pakistan team was not that bad. It was just bad luck.

Look at our players...does any one of them seem to have the power to clear the boundry consistently. Physically they dont have muscle to do it. Modern day cricket require strong body to play shots 180 degree all across the ground. With this physical state one can only hit shot in mid wicket and long on region, that is it.

Everyone is blaming Azhar Ali but the other 10 players are equally (bit i think they are more) responsible for this shameful defeat as the captain. Does Azhar Ali said to Wahab Riaz to bowl No Balls ? Does he said to Mohammad Hafeez to perform poorly ? or does the worst performance of shoaib malik is due to Azhar ali ? No ! The credit of this disgraceful defeat goes to the whole team. I am a big cricket fan and watch almost all kind of cricket. The face of Azhar Ali is telling complete story. He is desperately trying to do to something but captaincy is not everyone's cup of tea. Neither he has the skills to lead the team nor it was his desire to be the captain. He was performing consistently well in the past 2 - 3 years and the management had no other option than to made him captain, but this captaincy has badly affected his performance too. So stop blaming Azhar alone.
