KARACHI: The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts on Monday remanded in police custody a station house officer (SHO) for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Tipu Sultan SHO Muhammad Saleem has been booked for abducting Zakir Baloch and Nazeer Ahmed within the remit of the Saeedabad police station on Aug 26 and demanding a ransom for their release.

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) arrested the SHO on Sunday and recovered the captives from the Tipu Sultan police station.

The investigation officer of the case produced the suspect in court and sought his custody for questioning. The administrative judge remanded him in police custody for seven days.

A case was registered under Sections 365-A (kidnapping or abduction for extorting property, etc.) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on the complaint of a relative of one of the captives.
