SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party candidates for chairman and vice chairman of Sukkur district council were elected unopposed on Wednesday after Pakistan Muslim League-Functional candidates pulled out of the race for the top seats.

PML-F candidates announced unconditional withdrawal in favour of PPP after PPP candidates Muhammad Aslam Shaikh (chairman) and Shahzaib Shah (vice chairman) arrived at the autaq of PML-F district leader Fakir Inayatullah Buriro near Rohri along with a large number of supporters.

Mr Shaikh told journalists that he would try his best to make Sukkur a model district with the help of people, media and other political and social organisations as well as civil society. His priorities were better education and supply of clean and purified drinking water to people, he said.
