KARACHI, Dec 1: The casualty department of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital remained closed for several hours following the death of a man, who was taken there in a very serious condition.

The relatives of the dead beat up the doctors and paramedical staff on duty, forcing them to flee the hospital.

According to a senior administrator of the hospital, the man, whose name could not be ascertained, died when the doctors were trying to save his life. He had been brought to the hospital with injuries to his abdomen.

“We think that the man died of internal bleeding. He simply did not give us time,” said the hospital’s administrator.

The casualty department remained closed for a full shift. And only one doctor turned up for work during the night shift.

The police said their personnel had to intervene to control the situation.
