SWABI: A police constable and a militant belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed, while two policemen were injured in an encounter in mountainous Gadoon Amazai region here on Tuesday, Swabi District Police Officer Javid Iqbal told Dawn.

He said the police were conducting a search operation in Dadoo village in the jurisdiction of Utla police station, that a wanted outlaw identified as Anwar Saeed opened indiscriminate fire on seeing the police personnel. He said the policemen returned the shots, which triggered a gunfight. The DPO said that the outlaw was using his mother as human shield.

In the exchange of fire, constable Javid Khan, belonging to Sheikh Jana village was killed, said a policeman, who was part of the operation, told Dawn.

Police officials finally shot dead the outlaw, while his two brothers surrendered to police, DPO Javid Iqbal said, adding the arrested men were identified as Malik Hussain and Innyat Hussain. He said that they had been shifted to an unknown location for further investigations.

Mr Javid said that the local police had written a letter to the officials concerned to put Rs2 million bounty on the head of the killed militant. He said an FIR was registered against the terrorists in Utla police station, and further investigations began.

The injured police Sub-Inspector was identified as Tariq Khan and constable as Sajjad Khan. Both of them were shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor. Police also recovered a Kalashnikov, a hand grenade and three pistols from the militants.
