LARKANA: The four-month-long stand-off between the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) and Govt Degree College in Larkana that had drastically affected academic activities at the institution, ended on Tuesday.

The principal, Ghulam Serwar Qureshi, on his own came to the general body meeting of the Larkana SPLA and offered an unconditional apology, said Lal Kalhoro, the spokesman for SPLA.

The academic activities that had stalled before the just-ended summer vacation have now resumed.

A good number of student turned up to the college to attend their classes.

The faculty members, who throughout the episode also resumed teaching in a normal atmosphere.

The stand-off was caused by a peon’s alleged harsh attitude towards a senior lecturer.

SPLA launched a protest against the incident and then the principal and during their drive they unfolded the financial and administrative flaws holding the principal responsible for them.

Speaking to Dawn, Principal Qureshi said he had unconditionally buried the hatchets with the sole aim of maintaining a peaceful academic atmosphere on the campus.

During the campaign, the then Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro had set up an inquiry committee but its recommendations remained unimplemented.
