LAHORE: The Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) has reduced the probables at its women’s training camp to 28 from 40 as part of their preparation for participating in this year’s World Cup to be held in South Korea from Sept 3 to 11.

Syed Khawar Shah, the PFB president, on Tuesday said that the list of players was reduced by coach Fenqyin Chen, from Taiwan, who joined the camp on July 12.

He further said that Taiwan had provided the women coach to the PFB as a goodwill gesture, and hoped that her presence in the camp would increase the skills of the Pakistani girls, who were going to compete in a World Cup for the first time.

Khawar said that the PFB was also fielding its men’s team in the qualifying round of the World Baseball Cup Classic to be held in US, also in September.

He added the PFB’s efforts had started paying dividends, citing in this regard fielding teams of both men and women in the world events were great achievements.

In the men’s event, Pakistan face Israel, Brazil and the UK to qualify for the main round of the mega event.

Pakistan currently stand in 23rd position in the world baseball rankings while it hold fifth place in Asia.
