MULTAN: Social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch’s cousin Haq Nawaz courted arrest before police in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday while a local court extended for three days physical remand of her brother, Waseem, in the murder case.

“I received a call from a lawyer that Haq Nawaz was with him in his chamber in Dera Ghazi Khan Kutchery and wanted to hand himself over to police,” Station House Officer Shah Saddar Din Hayat Khan Dershak told Dawn.

He said Haq Nawaz had earlier got pre-arrest bail but did not deposit the security bonds as he thought his bail would ultimately be rejected. The SHO said he contacted Multan police and informed them about the arrest of Haq Nawaz. Multan police took him into custody.

Remand of her brother extended for three days

The name of Haq Nawaz is not included in the FIR but he was wanted for interrogation in the light of confessions of main accused Waseem, the brother of Qandeel Baloch.

Meanwhile, the police produced Waseem in the court of area magistrate Sarfraz Anjam who extended his physical remand for three days on the request of the police. He was produced before the court after his five-day remand ended on Monday.

City Police Officer Azhar Akram said the police had managed to get the physical remand of Waseem for three more days. He said Haq Nawaz was wanted because he could be the possible co-accused in the case. He said police had summoned Mufti Abdul Qavi and a team of investigators would interrogate him.
