CHITRAL: One person was killed and seven others sustained serious injuries when a jeep coming to Chitral from Upper Dir plunged into a ravine at Ashrait village here on Saturday afternoon.

An official of Drosh police station told Dawn the dead was identified as Mohammad Ismail of Chinar Mastuj, while the injured included Mohammad Iqbal, Mohammad Ishfaq, Rabia, Bibi Dana, Mazia Bibi and Rizwan, all belonging to Mastuj.

The official said the reason of the accident was reckless driving by its driver, Rahmatullah of Dir Upper, for which he had been booked under relevant sections of law.

Meanwhile, Rs95 million has been allocated for reconstruction of the suspension bridge in Kosht union council in upper Chitral to reconnect it with rest of the district under the community driven local development (CDLD) project financed by the European Union.
