KARACHI, Dec 30: The Sindh excise and taxation department have launched a special campaign for the recovery of the Motor Vehicle Tax in Karachi.

For this purpose seven teams, each headed by an excise & taxation officer (ETO), have been constituted, which will be supervised by ETO (administration) Dr Iqbal Sehar.

The campaign has been launched on the directives of secretary excise & taxation Masood-ur-Rahman Masood.

Director E&T (administration) Manzoor Ali Awan told PPI that during the first day of the campaign, the teams in the city checked 884 vehicles, while 12 buses, minibuses and other commercial vehicles were impounded for nonpayment of the MVT for the last several years.

He said it had been observed that most of the vehicle-owners rushed to the civic centre for payment of the MVT which caused inconvenience to them. He advised such persons to avail themselves of the facility provided by the department for depositing the MVT at the 12 specified branches of the National Bank of Pakistan, include seven computerized branches.

These computerized NBP branches are located at M.A. Jinnah Road, Awami Markaz, Defence, Kahkashan Clifton, PIDC House, Nazimabad and SITE.

Awan also advised vehicle-owners to deposit their MVT in time, as after December 31 strict action would be taken against the defaulters, including imposition of heavy penalty and impounding the vehicles.—PPI
