KOHAT: The city police and security forces arrested two Afghan nationals and 123 other suspected persons in a joint operation in areas around PAF Base, Kohat, on Thursday.

The police also seized two rifles, one repeater and two pistols during the operation.

The Afghan nationals who were residing without valid cards were booked under 14 Foreign Act and sent to prison for deportation. The rest were moved to the police station where cases were registered for further investigations against some suspected persons whereas others were released.

According to a police statement, special teams of police and security forces conducted raids in different areas surrounding the Kohat University of Science and Technology and district jail, including Jarma, Khawasi Banda, Muslimabad, Kamar Dhand and Waziro Kalay, and arrested 25 suspects.

During the operation police seized two Kalashnikovs, three shot guns, two rifles, three pistols, and one kilogramme of hashish. The arrested persons were shifted to police station Jarma for interrogation.

The police also foiled an attempt to smuggle 18 kilogrammes of hashish from Sipah tribal area to Punjab via Kohat and arrested a smuggler on Thursday.

The cantonment police during checking at Bosi Tang area stopped a man and on search of his bag recovered 18 kilogrammes of hashish. The alleged smuggler was identified as Adil Badshah, a resident of Nasratkhel, Kohat.

Meanwhile, the district administration collected Rs15,000 fine from profiteers in a crackdown in different bazaars on Thursday. The raids were conducted by additional assistant commissioner Khaliq Dad Wazir in Gumbat, Bilitang and main bazaar, Kohat.

POWER FLUCTUATIONS: Extreme fluctuations of electricity burnt hundreds of electronic gadgets of consumers here the other day.

Sources said that Pesco had not removed fault after felling of trees on high transmission lines a few days ago which was causing disruption in power for long hours since then.

The consumers had a difficult day on Wednesday as air-conditioners did not work for the whole day and people had to sit outside their rooms in open air.

The power was shut down for three hours in the afternoon in City-I and City-II after which only fans started working properly. The people who suffered great losses demanded of the Pesco to fix the fault once and for all.

The consumers who had automatic generators faced problems when automatic function failed due to fluctuation and the technicians were not available to repair the systems.
