QUETTA: Security forces on Thursday launched a security operation in the provincial capital against suspected militants involved in killing of police officials and paramilitary forces.

“Three militants were killed during a targeted operation in Quetta’s Badini Cross area in the early hours of Thursday,” said Khan Wasay, spokesman for the Frontier Corps.

The FC spokesperson added the militants belonged to a banned organisation and were involved in acts of terrorism.

The paramilitary forces, personnel of security agencies and police forces launched the operation in the aftermath of multiple attacks on police forces in the provincial capital.

In a separate attack, suspected militants on Thursday morning shot and seriously injured a policeman. The injured police official was rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta for medical treatment.

Police forces reached the spot of the attack and started their initial investigation.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, had a ordered police and other law enforcement agencies to apprehend elements involved in the recent attacks on security forces.

Militants have conducted attacks against security forces and national installations in Balochistan, which has been plagued by an insurgency and growing sectarian killings for more than a decade.
