GUJRAT: The Sohawa Tehsil (Jhelum) assistant commissioner has sought registration of a criminal case against ruling PML-N MPA Raja Awais Khalid for allegedly trying to physically attack her and misbehaving with her during his visit to Model Ramazan Bazaar on June 25 (Saturday) under the influence.

In another separate application lodged with Sohawa police, AC Ms Nargis Shazia Chaudhry warned that in case of any harm to her life or her other family members, MPA Awais Khalid would be responsible since she was living alone at an official residence without any protection.

In her application to the Jhelum DCO, the AC said the MPA visited the Model Ramazan Bazaar along with a few of his companions and started misbehaving with stall holders. The AC said when the MPA was about to leave the bazaar, she sought his remarks about the arrangements and he expressed his dissatisfaction.

“When I asked the MPA to explain which stall was not up to the mark, he started misbehaving with me and tried to physically assault me but other staff intervened and Awais Khalid was taken away by his companions.”

Talking to Dawn by phone, Ms Chaudhry said she had sent the copies of her application to the chief minister, chief secretary and Rawalpindi commissioner for taking necessary legal action against the MPA. She said at least five stall holders at the bazaar, including that of a woman shopkeeper with whom the MPA also misbehaved, had also filed their written complaints against the MPA for action otherwise they had warned of strike.

The AC, who belongs to the 38th common of the Pakistan Administrative Service, said she had been posted in Sohawa for the last 21 months and had never any issue with the MPA despite the fact that he would often lodge complaints against her. When contacted by this reporter, MPA Awais Khalid denied the charges.

He said he had never been involved in any issue with the AC nor had he misbehaved with anyone. He said CCTV footage showed poor quality of vegetables, fruits, meat and other items.

“Everybody in my town knows me that I have been observing fasts and the allegation of my being drunk is frivolous.”
