ISLAMABAD: The federal government has set aside at least Rs49.5 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in the fiscal year 2016-17 for the completion of the western route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Details of projects under the western route are below:

  • Rs22bn: DI Khan Motorway's Burhan-Hakla section

  • Rs5bn: Gwadar-Turbat-Hoshab section

  • Rs4bn: Hoshab-Nag-Basima-Surba section

  • Rs1.1bn: DI Khan-Mughalakot section

  • Rs16.5bn: Thakot-Havelian section

  • Rs4.6bn: Burhan-Havelian Expressway

The 285-kilometre-long Burhan-Hakla section connecting DI Khan to Hakla is to be completed in two years at a cost of over Rs129bn, official sources in the ministry of Planning, Development and Reform here on Sunday.

The motorway will pass through Pindi Gheb, Sawan, Mianwali, Rokhri, Rehmani Khel and will terminate at Yarik in DI Khan.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal while speaking to APP said the Gwadar-Surab section will be completed by Dec 2016, while the DI Khan section will be completed by July 2018.

Iqbal dispelled the impression that some elements were creating confusion about the western route of the CPEC and said there is complete consensus among political parties regarding the route. He added that work on the route is in full swing.

The government is determined to complete the western route on a priority basis by providing all the required funds for it, the minister said.

PMLN Govt is simply not sincere regarding the western route and will keep on cheating in this regard unless some strong checks / resistance remains visible to them.

Houlbelat Jun 26, 2016 06:00pm

The route should be as planned and decided by China, who is footing the bill. We must have our own lateral connection to the route. If even an inch is increased in route by our deviation, it would add to the cost of transportation to/from China, for all times to come.

Asad Jun 26, 2016 06:09pm

Kpk n baluchistan gov shud take court verdict from the gov about western route.. PLMN is nt sincere about any western projects. Example is distruction of hattar industrial state and M1 motorway inaugurated by musharraf in 2008

Rajesh Jun 26, 2016 06:11pm

If govt itself is spending in billions then what is china doing?

Houlbelat Jun 26, 2016 06:25pm

@Truth : Don't forget PML(N) Government is the legal Pakistan Government established by the overwhelming majority vote.

Zak Jun 26, 2016 06:36pm

The rise is about to begin. Nothing can stop us.

Hilarious Jun 26, 2016 07:03pm

China Punjab Economic Corridor is going on in full swing. Keep up the good work PML-N

Raja Parekh Jun 26, 2016 07:05pm

Pakistan should have consulted India for the help.

Hussain Haqani Jun 26, 2016 07:16pm

Cpec success depends on sticking to Indias position of avoiding the region it considers disputed.

SAEED MASOOD Jun 26, 2016 07:55pm

Don't listen to the negative voices keep working hard this CPEC is the game changer and much more... Inshahallah

Ihsan Jun 26, 2016 08:04pm

Out of 46 billion 40 billion is to spend on the link shared by both eastern and western routes that's from hakla to thaikot , eastern route which runs in Singh and Punjab will be 6 lane motorway while western route is only upgradation of existing roads

Shoaib Jun 26, 2016 08:43pm

Keep working pml(n). Keep working for Pakistan.

Khwarezmi Jun 26, 2016 08:43pm

Communication is important but where are the universities? Only higher education can truely change our country.

Accountability Jun 26, 2016 09:57pm

We hear all the news but what is the time line for completion of CPEC projects? Is any chance that current generation would benefit from these projects? Is it possible to publish what has been accomplished so far, what is in progress with expected completion dates? Wonder any manufacturing plants would be built in Pakistan to create job opportunities for Pakistanis. (lets hope its not pipe dream, but there would be real benefit for average pakistanis to earn more to better their and family living standards). Hope somebody read it and publish completion dates so average person on street know what to expect in next few years.

IFTIKHAR KHAN Jun 26, 2016 11:13pm

Western Route of CPEC is more important for Pakistan's Strategic Depth Doctrine than linking Kashgar to Gwadar; it is expected to provide safe and fast transfer of Taliban and other assets between northern and southern Afghanistan, when needed. That is why military establishment is pushing for western route whereas PML(N) government sees it as white elephant when considering providing security to goods carrying convoys.

Wahid Ali Jun 26, 2016 11:28pm

Let the Chinese Govt make the announcement. No one trusts the PML Govt.

DAD Jun 26, 2016 11:32pm

It slightly touches KPK at D I Khan and rest of the province is bypassed. How come it is named as Western route.

GAK Wazir Jun 26, 2016 11:41pm

Mr. Ahsan Iqbal! No allocation for the 81 kms Zhob-Mughalkot section of CPEC inaugurated by PM Nawaz Sharif in January this year? Is the amount approved by ADB enough for this key project? Please share the allocation for this gigantic project with the nation especially the people of Balochistan to address their reservations.

A shah Jun 27, 2016 12:19am

We'll be having the same conversation in 5 years time, but questioning where the funds have gone.

roarwali Jun 27, 2016 03:19am

Its is not simply road but a complete package is needed for western route: railway, fiber optics, industrial zones and power generation

Tamil Jun 27, 2016 03:38am

@Raja Parekh what have we got to do with CPEC, it's a China-Pakistan project. Good luck to them.

M Taimur Jun 27, 2016 07:57am

@DAD What do you mean slightly touches? Should it pass through the city center? Now they will be having access to this whole route and let us see how provincial government develops the industrial areas.

Arshad , Canada Jun 27, 2016 08:40am

@Raja Parekh , ya sure? Next time .

Sajjad Jun 27, 2016 09:32am

@Houlbelat . China is not footing the bill . Pakistan will have to return the complete amount of 46 billion dollars along with 18 % interest .
