LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, arrested five people in a land compensation fraud case involving over Rs50 million.

According to a NAB spokesman, retired Brig Muhammad Arif Khan, Ali Abbas, Nasim Abbas, Sohaib Arshad and Atif Rashid were arrested for fraud, misappropriation and loss to national exchequer.

“Brig Arif in connivance with others fraudulently withdrew Rs54m from the funds of project ─ Defence Canal Road ─ through bogus/fake vouchers by fabricating the documents pertaining to irrelevant Khasra numbers which were neither the part of the land acquired for the project nor was included in award,” the spokesman said.

The suspects will be produced in the accountability court on Friday (today) for physical remand.
