KARACHI, Nov 23: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad visited various shopping areas, including Saddar, Nazimabad, Haideri, North Karachi, Tariq Road, Clifton, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Defence, to review security arrangements. He also inquired about law and order situation and the facilities provided to shopkeepers and general public.
Accompanied by the IGP, Syed Kamal Shah, CCPO Karachi Asad Ashraf Malik and DIG Operations Tariq Jamil, the governor talked to ordinary people around in different shopping areas and inquired about their grievances.
According to a handout, people expressed their happiness and gratitude to the governor for his personal visit to the areas and taking interest in the problems being faced by people.
Shopkeepers also appreciated adequate security arrangements made by the government and told the governor that they were doing their business without any fear or problem as nobody was extorting money or seeking involuntary donation (Bhatta) from them.
LAW & ORDER: Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that adverse activities by certain elements cannot hamper the efforts being made to improve law and order in the province.
Presiding over a high level meeting at Governor House on Saturday in connection with law and order situation, the governor directed the concerned officials to take effective steps in the light of a wave of terrorism in the world.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of Home, Law, Police and Rangers departments who apprised the governor of law and order in the province and efforts being made to improve the situation.
Dr Ibad directed the participants to make effective arrangements for the security of life and property of common man and a smooth flow of traffic on the occasion of Eid.
He cautioned the SHOs to remain alert and coordinate their efforts with the community and market associations to ensure peace.
The meeting also reviewed honour killings (Karo-kari) and various other problems. It expressed satisfaction over the active participation by elected representatives, politicians and social workers in efforts towards elimination of the Karo-kari custom.
He held out the assurance that the government would take all possible measures in this regard and said that prosecution system would be strengthened further.—PPI
