SUKKUR: Woman forcibly wedded

Published November 24, 2003

SUKKUR, Nov 23: A woman, who had married of her own will and was later forced to leave her husband, was wedded to an elderly man in the Dara Wahan village near Kandhra on Friday night.

The woman, Gul Bano Narewal, was forcibly remarried to Malang Narewal, reportedly a mentally ill man, after her parents received Rs18,000 from the parents of Malang, a villager told this correspondent.

Earlier, Ms Bano had tied the knot with Naveed Khaskheli at the sessions court of Khairpur on Oct 14. The couple were forced to separate on Nov 11 after a deal between the Narewal and Khaskheli clansmen.

It was learnt that Mr Naveed had been declared a Karo and expelled from the village.

A Jirga between Narewal and Khaskheli tribes in this connection is likely to be held after Eid. It was also learnt that Mr Naveed’s father, who was in a police lockup since the marriage of his son, was released on Friday night.
