ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the Pakistan International Airline on Saturday said a fire had broken out at the precision engineering department near the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, early morning and is likely to damage spare parts.

After hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control around 1pm, confirmed Danyal Gilani – the airline's spokesman in Islamabad, who said the situation was now “under control”.

Gilani said no one was injured and the incident had not affected flight operations. “Preliminary investigation suggests the fire was caused by short circuit,” he added. “Damage assessment would be possible after the site cools down.”

He said PIA Chairman Azam Saigol had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The precision engineering department manufactures spare parts of airplanes and other industries.
