RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Thursday stated the Pakistan Army is aware of all hostility being perpetrated against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He added the CPEC project will transform the lives of people of Pakistan.

"We are ready to pay any price to turn this long cherished dream into reality,” said the COAS, speaking at a conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) added the participants were given a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing internal and external security situation of the country. Participants also held exhaustive discussion on professional matters.

“The Pakistani nation has been a victim of terrorism for over a decade and has sacrificed a lot, but we have turned the tide primarily due to the resilience displayed by the whole nation and professionalism of our armed forces.”

The country’s top general added the Pakistan Army will always fulfill the expectations of the Pakistani nation.

The COAS also emphasised on the quality and speed of rehabilitation and resettlement work in FATA for the TDPs timely return.

The latest statement by the country's top general comes at a time when the government has aired confessions of captured Indian and Afghan spies.

CPEC: Background

The CPEC is a 3,000-kilometer network of roads, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas from Gwadar Port to Kashgar city, northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Proposed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during his visit to Pakistan in May 2013, the CPEC will act as a bridge for the new Maritime Silk Route that envisages linking three billion people in Asia, Africa and Europe.

An official agreement on the corridor was signed between the two countries in May last year during President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Pakistan.

A flagship project of the Belt and Road initiative as well, the CPEC intends to revive the ancient Silk Road with a focus on infrastructure, and constitutes the strategic framework of bilateral cooperation.

The project links China's strategy to develop its western region with Pakistan's focus on boosting its economy, including the infrastructure construction of Gwadar Port, together with some energy cooperation and investment programs.

It also involves road and railway construction including an upgrade of the 1,300-km Karakoram Highway, the highest paved international road in the world which connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountains.

The CPEC will reduce China's routes of oil and gas imports from Africa and the Middle East by thousands of kilometers, making Gwadar a potentially vital link in China's supply chain.

General Raheel during the conference expressed satisfaction on the pace of TDP return. He also paid tribute to the unwavering support shown by the tribes in the tribal areas.

Good luck, the enemies of Pakistan, whether internal or external, had planned for the total disappearance of our independent country, Pakistan.

"He added the CPEC project will transform the lives of people of Pakistan."

Selling pipe dreams.

We need an exclusive Interprovincial infrastructure security force (IPISSF) to protect and promote the vital national interests...

@Rohit Singh - The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves.

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 07:06pm

@divergence can someone please tell him to learn to be quiet Pakistan army is the cause of all of Pakistani problems, cpec is good for China

Herat87 Jun 02, 2016 07:07pm

Seems Pakistan´s economy is all limited to this CPEC project. This country is proudly becoming a Chinese vassal.

Common Sense Jun 02, 2016 07:07pm

@Rohit Singh I'm sure you are used to "pipe dreams" while modi is in power.

M. Emad Jun 02, 2016 07:07pm

How Indian-build Chabahar Port complex on Iran coast is a hostility against CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) ?

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 07:09pm

@Harmony-1© yes harmony the destruction of Pakistan by jealous Pakistanis is a proof enough which you can not fathom as your slave masters in army do not want you to see

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 07:12pm

@Ahmed bin Babar to protect vital national interests one has to have a nation, and Pakistanis have not been able to forge one for the last seventy years

@Abraham Haque,

Bingo!! You said the truth. A general running the economic policy and taking over the foreign policy is the reason why Pakistan is stuck in this doldrums.

The real leader should be the prime minster and the generals need to be kept on a tight leash.

I am not able to understand that how come a single project can change the life of 180 million people that is totally dependent on a developing nations economy that is China.

Srinivasulu Mekala Jun 02, 2016 07:40pm

@Herat87 "Seems Pakistan´s economy is all limited to this CPEC project. This country is proudly becoming a Chinese vassal." No not vassal; but a use and throw latex membrane.

CALCUTTA MAN Jun 02, 2016 07:45pm

"How Indian-build Chabahar Port complex on Iran coast is a hostility against CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) ?"

Thank you for raising a pertinent question...

Common Sense Jun 02, 2016 07:45pm

@Ash First of all Pakistan is a nation of 200 million people, not 180. Secondly, it will run through underdeveloped areas to generate employment for neglected people of the country. It will benefit the whole country by helping the poorest of the poor get jobs and prevent them from diverting towards terrorism. Appreciate the questions and I tried to give an honest answer.

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:00pm

Why are all the Indians here getting their knickers in a twist over General's remarks.

If you think Pakistan is becoming a Chinese whatever then no worries. It's our problem not yours. If you think General needs to stay quiet then I say why. He has all the right to speak, and must speak, when it comes to security. You guys need to worry about the Chabahar pipe dream and not Gwadar.

Abhishek Jun 02, 2016 08:01pm

@Common Sense you are right but why dependence Complete on CPEC. Why not economic corridor between India - Afghanistan, India - Iran. This multiple tranist route have really geared up for economic development and provided opportunities to people. Remember as you said you have 200 million people with many of them unemployed and uneducated. Get maximum benefit about your stragetic location instead of showing ego to others

Chindu Jun 02, 2016 08:03pm

it seems that for the love of china ....Pakistanis are willing to eat lead noodles or artificial eggs ! Desperate attempt of a county with no real friends

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:04pm

@Ash In case you havent been keeping up with the news since last decade or so, China is a 10 trillion USD economy second only to US. So if China is a developing economy then India is a slum at 1.8 trillion.

Alam Jun 02, 2016 08:05pm

@M. Emad no problem to Pakistan. Iran is thinking of linking both ports. Excess cargo in Gawadar will be handled by Chabahar. We are happy if this port is working which depends on peace in Afghanistan and peace in Afghanistan will ensure peace in Baluchistan. Chabahar project will bring peace in the region. India have found shortest possible access to Afghanistan, Central Asia, Russia, Europe after connecting Khandala with Chabahar with bridge.

Kulbhushan Yadav Jun 02, 2016 08:15pm

What would be interesting to see is how may General, Colonels, Majors etc. have plots along this corridor.

Haseeb ud din Jun 02, 2016 08:19pm

Sir, we have been seeing your statements for a long and in the meantime we experienced a drone attack on our land from outside. This attack has shattered confidence of Pakistani public and vulnerable in our security. Please take some concrete and visible steps rather than issuing press release.

The End is Near Jun 02, 2016 08:21pm

@Common Sense Mark my word" next 20 years there will be more Chinese in Pakistan than Pakistani..Pakistan will look like Qatar ."

Amir Janjua Jun 02, 2016 08:39pm

This CPEC is just to benefit China. Chinese never do anything for charity rather their benefits and if someone get some benefit out of that they don't mind and this is what CPEC is all about.

Zulfi Khan Jun 02, 2016 08:41pm

China is hell bent on making us their economic and military colony. We seem to be attracting the worst all the time - from English to Americans to now Chinese. Mark my words, the day our usage is over, Chinese will dump us faster than Americans. However our 46 billion USD loan for CPEC will still be paid by our children and grandchildren.

mind control Jun 02, 2016 08:41pm

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Thursday stated the Pakistan Army is aware of all hostility being perpetrated against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

From the 'Guardians of the Ideological Boundaries of Pakistan',

To the Watchmen of a neighbour's assets.

How the mighty have fallen.

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:44pm

@Abraham Haque We know what benefits CPEC will or won't bring. We don't need India to remind us of that. Instead of lecturing us about what China will or won't provide, maybe you should try to provide toilets to 60% of the Indians defecating in the open.

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:47pm

@joe "Mark my word" next 20 years there will be more Chinese in Pakistan than Pakistani..Pakistan will look like Qatar .""

Qatar has the highest per capita GDP of all the countries at around $140,000 so not bad if Pakistan resembles Qatar.

BM Jun 02, 2016 08:50pm

How much money has this Gentleman taken from Chinese Companies to promise completion of CPEC? Why is he not paying attention to his own Country where Govt. is taking loans after loans and Pakistan is plunging itself into debt trap and this project of USD 46 Billions will also increase the external debt of Pakistan by USD 11 Billions?

AA Jun 02, 2016 08:50pm

Wow!! When the Pak army will follow only the duties as per the constitution. we solve all the rest.

Tamil Guru Jun 02, 2016 08:51pm

CPEC's main purpose is to transport oil and gas from Gwadar Baluchistan to China's northwestern Kashgar city in Xinjiang. How is one single project going to change and improve the life of 200 million people dramatically?. The Pakistani leadership, both military and civilian are taking the poor people for a long ride.

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 08:52pm

@lafanga yes the Chinese will control Pakistan

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:54pm

@Zulfi Khan Chinese haven't dumped us in 40+ years so why would they do it now? They know we stood by them and they stand by us. Yes they are not giving charity to Pakistan and I don't expect them to so they have their economic benefits tied to CPEC as well. If Pakistan plays it's cards right and the civilian govts stop bickering over the CPEC and get on with it, it's a win-win all around.

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 08:57pm

@Alam letc him also tell you that he is still in the business of sponsoring creating and hiding terrorists

Ahmed bin Babar Jun 02, 2016 08:57pm

@Abraham Haque are you scared of our soldiers..?

divergence Jun 02, 2016 08:59pm

@Abraham Haque so what's your problem if Pakistanis want to controlled by Chinese, you should shift to that country whom you want to be controlled by.

Zulfi Khan Jun 02, 2016 09:00pm

Big talk from General when Pak Army is sitting and watching the daily drone show. Now its time to walk the talk. Else it will look like a bollywood movie dialogue

lafanga Jun 02, 2016 08:59pm

It seems like Indians are more worried about Pakistan's future with China and CPEC then Pakistanis. So if Indians think CPEC is a bad idea for Pakistan, go with the opposite of whatever they say ... it will turn out to be good.

M.Saeed Jun 02, 2016 09:00pm

@Rohit Singh, yes the pipe that you blow loud!

Rohit Singh Jun 02, 2016 09:01pm

Ekram Jun 02, 2016 09:00pm

@Rohit Singh Are you jealous?

Tahir Mohammad Ali Jun 02, 2016 09:00pm

Harmony-1© Jun 02, 2016 09:22pm

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 09:23pm

@Tahir Mohammad Ali my thoughts exactly, thank you for saying that

Ahmed bin Babar Jun 02, 2016 09:24pm

@Abraham Haque is this your problem..?

Common Sense Jun 02, 2016 09:25pm

@Abhishek To your questions. We have many routes for cross border trade with Afghanistan. Remember there almost a 1200km border. The crossing which is at Torkham. We also have 3 trade routes with Iran as we also share a long border our Irani brothers so we really don't need to go by sea and use Chabahar port since we have land route. That's not being smug, that is the truth. It is less expensive for us to trade goods by road than via water. The same is the case with India via Wagah border, also a land route.

Anwar Amjad Jun 02, 2016 09:26pm

@Ash Look at the map and see that the 3,000 km long road and rail network being built under CPEC to link Gwadar in South Western corner to the Northern tip of Pakistan means developing the whole infrastructure of the country.

Common Sense Jun 02, 2016 09:26pm

Abraham Haque Jun 02, 2016 09:27pm

@Ahmed bin Babar you do not have soldiers you have thugs who train terrorists remember if theyvare able v to do something besides talking would not have lost east Pakistan

Lahori Kid Jun 02, 2016 09:30pm

@Rohit Singh, Than why all the negative comments? Why bother, let us be, everything starts with a dream and ideas.Imagine no poverty in Pakistan and India, hardly close to reality, but one CAN dream, it all just might come true one day.

Tamil Guru Jun 02, 2016 09:30pm

@lafanga says :-> It seems like Indians are more worried about Pakistan's future with China and CPEC then Pakistanis.

Please don't generalize on Indian's views. It is a large country and less than 5% of the Indian population even know or care about projects like Gwadar CPEC or Chabahar.

About 40% of the population lives in South India where the people are concerned with jobs, economy, IT, Space, Auto industry etc. They work hard for it like most Indians. No one in India is dependant on some foreign project to improve their life style.

Battleaxe Jun 02, 2016 09:32pm

The Chinese are not even talking about it and till now have not even give a penny .China simply wants a sea route out of moutains into sea to save shipping costs . It has a train line into Nepal via Tibet that will come into Bihar and then on to Orrisa where it has a place for itself for iron ore shipping . It can then tackle entire East towards Thailand so it's south China sea problem will also solve in a way and in west towards Iran and GCC as India will support it in Chabahar also then , we are the real deal as we can open the route to sea for China at a fraction of cost as it needs only 250 km rail line to reach india and we have the biggest rail network that access two oceans .Think about it.

Sim Jun 02, 2016 09:36pm

InshaAllah CEPC will be reality soon and bring prosperity in the region. Fully support it

Rana Chakwal Jun 02, 2016 09:52pm

@Tamil Guru If oil from Iran and KSA are diverted to other sources other than China, then oil can't go from Gwadar via pipelines or trucks. CPEC will then fail half way as energy is needed to fuel Chinese devleopment. Lack of energy means lack of manufacturing and thus goods won't go from China to Gwadar. India is gaining immense power with Iran and KSA so we will see them getting resources for development very soon.

Harmony-1© Jun 03, 2016 12:05am

@Sri1 - I never even mentioned the word "CPEC" here but clearly it seems an obsession with you lot. At least on two earlier news I have expressed this view:

"Both ports can prosper and do business concurrently. Competition is good for the whole region. So, a futile debate of 'mine is better than yours'!"

So there!

Alam Jun 03, 2016 12:54am

@Battleaxe thanks for addition to our knowledge. We did not know China is just pretending to develop Gawadar port and actually planning to use Bihar route to reach to Middle East. Great addition to everyone's knowledge. Thanks for sharing

Nida Jun 03, 2016 01:13am

@divergence I am not Indian but a Pakistani. I am seeing KSA's tilt to India too instead of Pakistan. Who knows whether they will continue to supply China with oil or do as West wants with "Containment of China Policy"Iran has and is tilting towards India but will always so oil will go to India. Russia cant' sell to China so cheaply and eventually China will be having an oil deficiency soon. I doubt CPEC can go far if oil to china is not provided.

CPEC is not Pakistan's internal matter.. you will realize it very soon .. when China will finally abandon this project.. all world is concerned about China being given the port , it just don't effect this region but creates issues in international security balance , the wars being fought in South China Sea will be fought in this area and Pakistan will pay the biggest price like it is still paying for its interference in Afghanistan.

@Abraham Haque neither has India that's why India has to use occupation forces to stay intact. At least Pakistan is unified and progressing.

Zak Jun 03, 2016 01:30am

We know the plan and we have the solution to the enemy,

Great that you will protect the Chinese but how about protecting your own people too?

Kashmiri Khan Jun 03, 2016 06:52am

CPEC will change the future of Pakistani people. army should strongly observe and secure the working area.

Mustafa R. Jun 03, 2016 07:06am

@Rohit Singh;

Banya thinking.

Tapish Jun 03, 2016 11:56am

The main obstacle to the CPEC project is obfuscation and non integration of the stake holders. Focus on such aspects first before counting chickens. Already some power projects have been cancelled and only roads may be constructed to the benefit of China.

The Pakistan's defense services have been the backbone of countries internal & external security. Never-mind what anyone's comment may be, particularly from our colleagues from the other-side of the isle.

The major rail-road networks in the recent decades have been maintained, & secured by army, especially in the remote Pakistani suburban countryside.Particularly in far flung areas exposed to acts of insurgencies&sponsored terrorist activities. Be it the areas of KPK, Baluchistan or for that matter in the other areas that will fall under CPEC.

The army and it's Corps of Engineers have been key institutions participating in Pakistan's economic projects for decades.General Raheel Sharif (COAS) has the key role to play in the CPEC project, and he is the right man to make policy statements on the subject, as he has rightly said,"We are ready to pay any price to turn this long cherished dream into reality.”

Friends&foes of Pakistan be rest assured CPEC will flourish without any doubt.

Well done COAS. People are right behind u for protecting CPEC , for which u give a presser almost every week People have forgotten how USA Humiliated a nuclear sovereign nation by violating it's air space. But Chuck it who cares .. We have CPEC to worry about. Let's focus on how India wants to sabotage CPEC.
