KARACHI: Begum Zakia Akhtar Hussain, wife of former foreign secretary and Pakistan ambassador Syed Akhtar Hussain, died after protracted illness here on Thursday.

She was mother of MNA Begum Salma Hussain, Begum Najma Shaharyar Khan, wife of Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan, and Syed Akbar Hussain.

She was laid to rest at PECHS Society Graveyard late on Thursday night.

Her Soyem will be held between Asr and Maghrib at Bhopal House 25, Old Clifton on Saturday.

Meanwhile, chairman of PCB executive committee Najam Sethi and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed have offered their heartfelt condolences to Shaharyar M. Khan, on the sad demise of his mother-in-law.

“The entire PCB family expresses their deepest sympathies to the chairman on this sad occasion. May Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give courage family to bear the irreparable loss. The prayers and wishes of everyone at the cricket board are with the PCB chairman and his family.”

A host of former cricketers and officials also offered condolences to PCB chairman, including ICC president Zaheer Abbas, KCCA president Prof Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi, Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu, Iqbal Qasim, Abdul Raqeeb, Sadiq Mohammad, Jalaluddin, Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari and Nadeem Omar.
