KARACHI: Two people, including a Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist, were shot dead while another person was injured in a suspected targeted attack in Jaffer Tayar Society of Malir area on Thursday night.

Saudabad police officials and MQM workers said that the victims were sitting at Nad-e-Ali roundabout on Thursday evening, as it was load shedding in the area, when unidentified armed pillion riders opened indiscriminate fire on them and fled the scene.

As a result of the firing, Asim Husain and Amir Haider lost their lives while Hasan sustained multiple bullet wounds. The dead and injured were shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.

Karachi-East Zone DIG Dr. Kamran Fazal Siddiqui said it appeared to be an incident of targeted killing, but it needs to be determined as to whether it was sectarian or political.

Meanwhile, MQM spokesperson Aminul Haq told Dawn that Asim was their party worker while Haider was their supporter.
