KARACHI, Nov 21: The Karachi University Vice-Chancellor, Dr Zafar Saeed Saify, on Friday laid foundation stones of new buildings of KU Business School (KUBS) and Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS) at varsity campus, and planted saplings at the sites of new buildings.

The Nawab of Junagadh, Mohammad Jahangir Khanji, and Qazi Naeemullah of the KU Alumni’s Washington chapter were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, KU VC said present building of the KUBS was not enough to cater to the needs of a large number of students, intending to take admissions at the department and said that within a short span the school had become an excellent business education centres.

The VC said the passing out students from the school were performing at both national and multinational companies in the country and abroad.

Qazi Naeemullah also spoke on the occasion and assured the VC of financial support for development of the varsity.

Later, the VC and other guests planted saplings at the sites of the KUBS and RIPS.

A varsity spokesman said that the new building of the KU Business School would accommodate more than 600 students, adding it would also be equipped with a modern auditorium, computer laboratory and a resource library.

The KU also intended to introduce some new degree courses shortly, besides increasing the number of seats for the BBA and MBA programmes, the spokesman said.

The new building of Pharmacy Education would help improve the pharmaceutical industry.

KU Registrar Dr Fahimuddin, Baber Wahab, Deans of Sciences, Arts and Pharmacy faculties, besides faculty members and students of the KU were also present on the occasion.

BAITUL MAAL: A new building of Baitul Maal at the campus was inaugurated by the KU VC.

The varsity spokesman said that the facility had been set up in collaboration with some philanthropists for the welfare of the low- paid varsity employees.

Arrangements would be made for the provision of ration to them every month, he said.

Prof Saify announced on the occasion that the varsity would soon set up a quality school for the children of these employees.

DEAN APPOINTED: The KU VC has given the interim charge of Faculty of Engineering, to Dean, Faculty of Science, Dr Iqbal Mohsin.

It is worth mentioning here that KU has recently established its Faculty of Engineering to offer postgraduate courses in engineering.—PPI/APP
