The Angry Birds Movie

Published May 21, 2016

Many video games have been turned into movies but it is not often that popular phone-app games get to be made as a 3-D animated adventure flick. So with The Angry Birds Movie finally here, the wait for its fans is over. But is it worth the visit to the cinema?

Well, for fans of Angry Birds and kids it is a fun movie, but the accompanying adults will not find it as much fun. The makers have tried to come up with a plausible plot with sleek animation but many things seem just too silly, maybe that’s what invokes the laughs for most people.

Set on the isolated Bird Island, a tight-knit community of birds are living the good life without ever having the need to learn flying. They believe they are the only ones in the world until they get some unexpected visitors — Leonard (Bill Hader) a fat, bearded pig and his tiny assistant, Ross (also Hale). They claim to be friendly and sweet and only our hero Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) an outcast with anger management issues, is suspicious of them. But of course the other birds don’t pay any heed to what Red says and enjoy the show that the pigs set up for them.

Red then learns that there are more of the pigs hidden in the boat and nobody believes him until the visitors sail away with the birds’ most prized possession — their eggs! Now it is up to Red and the mythical Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) to save the eggs.

It seem the underlying message of The Angry Bird Movie is that sometimes one needs to get really angry. Really?
