ISLAMABAD: Fast bowling legend and former national team head coach Waqar Younis insists Pakistan cricket will not improve unless and until some tough steps are taken to fix the country’s domestic cricket.

Waqar, who resigned last month as Pakistan head coach three months before his contract was going to end after a string of embarrassing exits for Pakistan from the Asia Cup T20 and the World T20, said the Pakistan Cricket Board needed to improve domestic cricket first.

“I will have been pleased if progress was made on my recommendations,” Waqar said while talking to a private news channel.

Waqar, who was appointed in May 2014 for a two-year contract, said the PCB was talking about changes but real changes were not being made.

“There seems to be lot of talk [about changes in the system] but the PCB is yet to announce formation of the cricket committee. The Board has some real work to do in trying to get genuine cricketers into the proposed cricket committee,” said the 87-Test veteran, known for his breathtaking speed and reverse swing.

Speaking about the newly-appointed head coach Mickey Arthur appointed last week, Waqar said Arthur’s emphasis should be on discipline which the pace bowling icon said would benefit Pakistan team.
