LARKANA: Students boycotted theory papers on Monday at the Larkana campus of Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur Mirs, in protest against shortage of facilities.

Campus Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC) Prof Dr Noor Muhammed Jamali confirming to Dawn said that students boycotted the paper of BBA-III, BCS-II and BS-English-III. It was the first paper of the running semester, he said, adding that unnecessarily a group of students was bent upon boycotting the papers.

The protesters forced their other colleagues sitting in the examination blocks to come out, he said. Innocent students were suffering at the hands of a small group of irritants, he said.

The papers would be rescheduled after consultation with the vice chancellor and to be held after the scheduled papers would be over, he said. When the Rangers was called in, the protesters agreed to hold negotiations to settle the issues, he said.

The PVC talked to the students and decided that a generator would be installed at the campus while parking sheds be constructed along with canteen facilities there. Internet facility would also be provided at the campus as per directives of the vice chancellor, he said.

The protesting students — Mansoor Chandio, Adnan Wahocho, Tarique Korai, Kashif Soomro and Zahid Luhar — in a press release said reluctance of the campus administration to provide genuine facilities had compelled them to boycott the papers. For four years, the campus was being run in a portion of the Government College of Art and Commerce building while the university management put the issue of constructing a campus building on the back burner.

They said the boycott would continue till acceptance of their demands while the PVC said the rest of the papers would continue as per schedule.
