KARACHI, Nov 19: The MNAs belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement have appealed to the president and prime minister to restrain Jamaat-i-Islami from continuing its fund-raising campaign in the name of Jihad in the entire country, particularly in Karachi.

In a joint statement, the MNAs termed the JI campaign ‘extortion’ and alleged that the party was fleecing people for the past 56 years and threatening those with ‘Jihad’ who would not contribute to the funds.

“The JI’s extortion campaign in the patronage of Qazi Hussain Ahmed is still under way in Karachi and it is minting money from innocent citizens, in the name the so-called Jihad, even by intercepting vehicles on roads. The Nazims belonging to JI are threatening people of dire consequences if they did not give donations. The Nazims are also extorting contractors using their contracts as a tool.”

The MNAs have urged the president and prime minister to institute an inquiry into the JI’s conduct so that grievances of contractors, traders, shopkeepers and other citizens are redressed.—PPI
