KARACHI: A sessions court indicted on Tuesday a senior police officer in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife. Superintendent of police Mian Jamshed Inamullah was booked for allegedly killing his wife, Hina, in their home in the Defence Housing Authority in July last year.

Additional district and sessions judge (south) Sohail Mohammad Leghari read out the charges against the accused. However, he pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. The court summoned the prosecution witnesses with the direction to record their testimonies on May 7.

According to the prosecution, initially the case was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code, but the police did not arrest the officer and submitted a charge sheet against him under Section 319 (unintentional murder) of the PPC in August.

While referring to statements of the SP’s servants, the investigating officer claimed that the suspect was cleaning a firearm when it ‘accidentally’ went off.

However, on the recommendation of the prosecutor, the court replaced Section 319 with 302 and issued a warrant against the SP, who was posted in Quetta, and directed the police high-ups to arrest and produce him in court. He was arrested and remanded in prison earlier this year.
