SUKKUR: The officials concerned have been directed to ensure door-to-door visits of teams for administering polio drops to all children up to 5 years of age.

Action should be taken against responsible for showing negligence in the micro plan and the tale sheets.

The directions were issued by Sukkur Division Commissioner Muhammad Abbas Baloch while inaugurating a three-day polio campaign by administering polio drops to children at Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Teaching Hospital here on Wednesday.

Sukkur Deputy Commissioner Waheed Asghar Bhatti, District Health Officer Abdul Wahab Mahar, hospital’s Medical Superintendent Abu Bakar Shaikh, Rotarians and other officials concerned were also present.

The commissioner said eradication of polio virus was a challenge to the whole nation and in this connection, “we all have to perform our role in achieving this national cause”.

After the inauguration, he reviewed the ongoing development work at Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Teaching Hospital Sukkur and directed the authorities concerned to remove all encroachments and illegal medical stores established on the hospital premises.

He also directed the deputy commissioner of Sukkur to prepare the hospital’s master plan and to construct residential flats for its lower staff.

The commissioner also visited Surgical Unit-2 and I.C.U. and directed to construct compound walls to bring improvement in the parking system at the hospital.

He directed the hospital administration to install informational sign boards outside each hospital unit for convenience of patients as well as their visitors.

Beautification plan

On the directives of Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddiq Memon, Commissioner Abbas Baloch presided over a meeting at the DC office of Sukkur on Wednesday in connection with provision of basic facilities to the residents of Sukkur, beautification plan of the city and construction of different roads in the city.

On the occasion, the commissioner said the chief secretary would be informed in writing about negligence of those departments which might not submit their schemes timely.

Deputy Commissioner Waheed Asghar Bhatti told the meeting that the PC-1 about surface drain, footpath, North Sindh Urban Services Corporation, emergency response centre and some other schemes had been prepared.

He also informed the meeting that PC-1 from the culture department about the river side beautification had not been submitted yet. On this the commissioner showed anger and directed the officials concerned to write a letter to the secretary of the culture department and communicate a copy of that to the Sindh chief minister and chief secretary also.

The deputy commissioner also said construction work of the Bunder road and the Jail road had been completed, adding that funds had been released for the construction work of the military road.

However, the Shikarpur road scheme would be included in the next year budget.

Officials of the education and works department told the meeting that Rs12 million had been released for maintenance and repair works of Government Islamia College Sukkur and the work would be started soon.

Official of the National Highways said Rs640 million had been released for widening and beautification of the city point roads and its bridges.

The superintending engineer of the provincial buildings department Sukkur informed the meeting that some tenders had been cancelled because of non-release of pending Rs123 million so far.

The commissioner during the meeting sought notice over construction of multi-storey buildings in Sukkur city and issued strict directives to the officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority for not issuing any approval without the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the deputy commissioner of Sukkur.
