LAHORE, Nov 16: Odds-on favourite bay mare, Song Of Peace, with jockey Javed Iqbal in the saddle, lifted the Mianwali Cup run over 1200m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Backed confidently at 30 to 100 favourite, Song Of Peace, lived upto her status of hot favouritism and beat long shot Free My Heart by over three lengths.
The roan Green Hill finished third, two and three-fourth of a length back, after nosing out Sugar And Honey to fourth position.
Song Of Peace was lying fourth during major part of the race and on entering into the straight jockey Javed Iqbal charged her which she responded quickly to emerge leader and win easily. In all, 16 contenders took part in the race. This was the fifth race of the day.
A race later bay colt Saqi ran splendidly to win the sup porting event, the Hasan Abdal Plate, a class IV handicap race, run over 1400m in a start to finish bid.
He clocked a fast timing of one minute 26 2/5 seconds over the distance. Fancied Snow Drop, with jockey Mubarik Ali astride, chasing the winner throughout the race was second, a distance behind. Chestnut filly Flame and bay mare Hataf Sara completed the frame among 17 runners.
Punters had a profitable Sunday when on a fast going their well-backed fancies obliged them one after the other in a card of seven races.
They began the proceedings on a happy note when two to one joint favourite bay mare Lucky Credit Queen, inspite of going wide in the straight, won the opener defeating Jati Sati by three lengths. The winner was partnered skillfully by jockey A. Aziz. In the subsequent events favourites romped home to complete the tally till the seventh and concluding race bagged by 70 to 100 favourite Canopy.
Jockey Javed Iqbal and trainer I. Nawab, won the day’s racing honours when they teamed up to finish the hectic afternoon’s proceedings with a brace of winners. Their winners were Song Of Peace in the fifth race and canopy in the last.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the performance of a mare Storm Bird and two colts, Flood Of Gold and Weldon Shogun, who finished among also ran. They fined their trainers, i.e Amjad Ali II (Storm Bird) rupees ten thousand, Khurrum Hussain (Flood Of Gold) rupees ten thousand and Haji Badar (Weldon Shogun) rupees five thousand for in and out run ning of their charges. They were also given a stern warning.
