MIRPURKHAS, Nov 16: With the sugar mill boilers warming up, harvesting of sugarcane crop has started in the district.

However, sugarcane crushing is expected to start after one week.

The growers, who were waiting for the start of sugar mills since last two months, have expressed their happiness on the start of crushing season.

They have been busy harvesting their sugarcane crop which has already lost weight.

The harvesting has started in the areas of Mirpurkhas, Pithoro, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Digri, Samaro, Kunri and Umerkot.

The growers are facing a shortage of labour for harvesting the crop as the labourers had increased their charges.

PROTEST: The tail-end growers of the Kunri Minor continued to hold a protest demonstration in Kunri on 11th consecutive day on Sunday.

The growers, carrying banners and placards, demanded their share of water and registration of cases against influential landlords.
