KOHAT: The Kohat police arrested four proclaimed offenders during the ongoing operation and foiled an attempt of smuggling cattle to Afghanistan at Kaghazai checkpost here on Saturday.

The officials of various police stations during the operation arrested four proclaimed offenders, including Mudassar Hanif of Lachi Bala, Tanveer of Mandoori, Abdul Saeed of Orakzai Agency and Sadiqur Rehman of Ustarzai Bala.

The police also rounded up 20 other suspects and shifted them to respective police stations for interrogation. One repeater, three pistols, hashish, liquor and cartridges were also recovered during the operation.


Police also foil bid to smuggle cattle to Afghanistan


Meanwhile the cantonment police stopped a truck carrying cattle to Afghanistan at Kaghazai checkpost. On questioning, the driver could not produce permit for exporting the cattle heads. The police seized 22 cattle and arrested the alleged smuggler Nabeel, a resident of Junglekhel, Kohat.

A case has been registered against the accused. The police claimed that during investigations Nabeel admitted that he bought the cattle at Kohat market and was carrying them to Afghanistan.

Acting on a complaint of IDPs, the Saddar police arrested one Arbab belonging to Orakzai Agency with three bags of pulses meant as ration for the displaced families. He was booked under the Food Act. They also registered a case against two alleged forgers who had issued two bogus cheques to their business partner and started raids for their arrest.

One Noor Habib of Darra Adamkhel had informed the police that Syed Dad Ali and Said Zaman had a business deal with him. They issued him two cheques for Rs900,000 each, but when he went to the bank they proved to be fake.

ANNUAL URS: A three-day annual Urs of saint Hazrat Haji Bahadar started with the hoisting of flag at his shrine by former governor retired Lt-Gen Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah here on Saturday.

The ceremony was attended by caretaker of the shrine Mian Masoom Shah, president of the union of descendents of the saint, Syed Abid Shah, president of Bazaar-i-Zargran Wahab Alam and hundreds of his followers.

The celebrations include Naat Khawani, Khatm-i-Quran and distribution of free food.
