CHITRAL: A woman and her daughter died when they were hit by boulders in Ashrait village near the Lowari Pass here on Monday afternoon when they were washing clothes on the bank of a local stream.

Chitral police told Dawn that a woman, Imtiaz Mahal, 35, and her daughter, Sidratul Muntaha, 8, were washing clothes when the boulders from the hillock rolled down and hit them, killing both of them on the spot.

The villages of Ashrait and Ziarat have been hit by snow avalanches and falling boulders a number of times this week as a result of the recent rains in the area, damaging a number of houses.
