ABBOTTABAD: The food department and police on Sunday sealed a factory and arrested four persons for allegedly making cooking oil from intestines and animal waste.

The raiding team accompanied by Abbottabad Tehsil Nazim Mohammad Ishaque also recovered a huge quantity of cooking oil and animal waste from the factory located in Salhad area.

The factory established adjacent to a waste dumping site supplies cooking oil to hotels and restaurants, especially to kabab and pakora outlets in the city.

The arrested men were identified as Bahadar Ali, Zubair Khan, Shafqat Ali, Khan Namrood and Iqbal. It is to be mentioned here that the factory owner was arrested some time back, but he was later released.

Meanwhile, district nazim Sardar Sher Bahadar has said the provincial government is not releasing the required funds for Abbottabad, which hampered development efforts.

This he said while speaking at a function organised by Anjuman-i-Shehryan Abbottabad. The function was attended by representatives of local government, trade and civil society organisations and people from other walks of life.

He said the funds denial was clear violation of the theme of the local bodies. He said the provincial government was creating hurdles in the way of development of Abbottabad district

On the occasion, president of the Anjuman, Malik Sajjad, proposed formation of a city planning commission comprising elected members of three union councils of the city, bar council, press club and elders to put forward proposals to solve longstanding problems of the city.
