QUETTA, Nov 15: The Quetta valley and other parts of northern Balochistan, including Ziarat and Kan Mahtarzai, received the first winter rain and snowfall on Saturday after a long dry spell.

Rain started in the valley and other parts of the province in early morning and continued intermittently till late in the evening, causing difficulties to the pedestrians and affecting traffic in the provincial capital.

Ziarat, Kan Mahtarzai, Muslim Bagh and many other areas of northern Balochistan also received the first snowfall of the season.

The snowfall started in the morning and continued till late evening with brief intervals. The areas received around six inches of snow and the Met office forecast more snowfall and rain in the region.

Quetta and its surrounding areas received over 30mm of rain. More rain is expected in the next 24 hours.

Rainwater damaged many houses in the slums and downstream areas in the city.

Over a dozen people were brought to the civil hospital with injuries due to accidents.

The city’s drainage system failed to work smoothly in the rain. The roads and streets, including the Prince Road, Jinnah Road, Liaquat Road and the Zarghoon Road, were flooded by rainwater.
