KARACHI, Dec 29: The University of Karachi is launching the second medical transcription training at the Department of Microbiology from January 15.

A university spokesman said on Saturday that application forms for the two and-a-half months programme are available at the office of the Microbiology department. Last date for submission of the forms is Jan 7.

Minimum qualification for admission is graduation or equivalent.

The course involves detailed study of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, human disease and exposure to related medical terminology.

It was stated that medical transcription is a computer-based technique, whereby one can accurately transcribe medical records dictated by doctors, including history and physical reports, clinic notes, operative reports, consultation notes, discharge summaries, laboratory reports etc.

It also involves receiving voiced files through digital systems and the received information is transcribed in a word document for ready reference and onward transmission.
