LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leader Pervaiz Elahi has said the package Nawaz Sharif announced for the farmers has been devoured by patwaris.

“The farmers’ losses have not been compensated and if anyone gets something (from the government) after much delay it will not be more than peanuts,” he said while talking to reporters on Thursday.

With regard to the difficulties and problems being faced by farmers, he said the rulers’ sympathy for the farmers was only restricted to mere slogans and propaganda.

“During the Sharifs’ tenure, problems, financial difficulties and worries of the people, particularly farmers, always increase whereas during our (PML-Q’s) five-year tenure we solved the farmers’ problems on a priority basis,” he said.

Mr Elahi said the rulers were spending not only development funds meant for the district governments but also of the funds of health and education sectors on flashy projects like Orange Line train.

“This is why medicines are not available in the hospitals and even essential compulsory facilities are not provided,” he said.

To a question about the worsening law and order situation, he said during N-League tenure people were being robbed, suicides were increasing with every passing day and dacoits, thieves and other criminals were free to commit crime.
