KARACHI: The 13th National Women’s Softball Championship will be played in Quetta from March 24-26 in which the provincial teams as well as leading outfits of the country will be taking part.

This was stated by Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) president Haider Khan Lehri here in a meeting held on Thursday. Teams from Army, Police, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Federal capital Islamabad have been invited to take part in the event.

Lehri said that in order to field a strong Pakistan women’s squad for the World Softball Championship, which will be held in Canada in July, the SFP is keen to prepare the players well and the national championship in Quetta will hopefully groom them for the mega event ahead.

“Those women softball players who will excel in the national event will be short-listed in a pool of players who will then get training in a special camp to be set up in preparation for the Canada event,” said Lehri.

Secretary Balochistan Softball Association (BSA), Naseem Khan also spoke on the occasion and thanked the SFP for awarding the national event to Balochistan. “We will do our very best to host the women’s event in a befitting manner in Quetta and will take good care of teams and officials,” said Naseem.

The meeting was attended by SFP Secretary General Asif Azeem, Vice President Zeeshan Merchant, provincial secretaries Farhan Rashid, Khalid Khan besides the executive committee members.
