ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday ordered Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali to ‘send a team to India’ to assess measures adopted for Pakistan cricketers’ security for the World T20.
A decision on Pakistan’s participation in the World T20, being hosted by India from March 8 to April 3, hinges on a clearance report by the security team, read a statement released from the premier’s office.
A final decision on whether Pakistan’s cricket team will fly to India will be made after a report is submitted by the ‘security team’, said the statement.
In a meeting with Nisar at the Prime Minister House, Nawaz directed to ensure “fool proof security measures for the team in coordination with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi”.
The development came after the chief minister of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh, called for the India-Pakistan World T20 tie to be moved to another venue ‘out of respect for those killed in the assault by militants on an Indian air force base in Pathankot’.
He threatened to not provide security for Pakistan’s players at the Himachal Pradesh cricket ground in the Himalayan town of Dharamsala where the clash is due to take place on March 19.
But yesterday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur was optimistic that the match will go ahead as per schedule.
He had a meeting with Singh and was positive that the state government would not have any reservations in hosting the much-anticipated encounter.
The statement issued by the prime minister also sought a report from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the team’s dismal performance in the Asia Cup T20.
Earlier today, the PCB took on board Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and veteran batsman Younis Khan to examine Pakistan’s disastrous Asia Cup T20 campaign and the ‘confused’ team selection for the World T20.
PCB chief Shaharyar Khan slammed the team’s performance but said that it was too late to make sweeping changes ahead of the World Cup.
Pakistan lost to arch rival India and host Bangladesh, and only managed to beat United Arab Emirates, raising serious doubts about their potential to challenge for the title in the tournament.
Shaharyar said everyone from the coach to those involved in the selection process would be held accountable but added that there would be no knee-jerk reaction.

You don't need an inquiry into the obvious - select a team on merit. Get rid of Waqar Younis and replace him with Wasim Akram. Get rid of Sethi. Hire a psychologist. Allow the team captain to pick the best 11 available from a squad of 15 and not coach. The players need to be told this is a full time job just like any other...under perform and you will be sacked, fail to show up to team meetings, training etc you will be sacked, any misconduct you will be sacked. Start grooming players through A team cricket. Restructure the domestic cricket into state cricket 8 teams max (2 per state) to draw in crowds. Simplify the format at domestic level by playing 4 day 1 day and t20. Hire a new marketing executive team to bring in revenue. Look at your competitors to see how they have marketed and televised games at local level and more importantly learn and remember. Good luck

I'm very surprised that the federal government are allowing local government to dictate international policy to it. It would only seem to suggest confirmation and agreement of hostility towards Pakistan. However, The irony lies in the ICC failing miserably but there again doesn't surprise me as its headed by the BCCI.
My own opinion is that even though I'm not Pakistani is to boycott the Wt20 and sue the ICC and BCCI for putting them into this position and failing to act.

I said India saved itself from embarrassment by not playing Pakistan in the past 40 years i.e. they always knew Pakistan would defeat them in all formats from 1960s to 2005, if you follow cricket you wouldn't contest that (see overall India vs Pak stats).
The point I tried making was India is better than present Pakistan - India may be 60 -40 in present times but Pakistan were 75 and India were 25 when your team boycotted playing Pakistan.
Also, Bangladesh is no too weak a side it used to be, will be a good contest on Sunday, you might want to bite your words later

@ CANPAK 1960s to 2005 serously..if u remember history correctly we won the 1985 benson and edges world series, we won 92, 96,99, 03, 11,15 world cup encounters aganist pakistan, We won all t20 world cup matches aganist Pakistan, we have won most matches in Toronto. Pakistan has won aganist India mostly on their home grounds and in sharjah..otherwise most of the crucial must win matches including 2011 world cup semi final and 2007 world cup final India has beaten Pakistan..so even on harping on past glory might not help you ease the pain on ur wound as most memorable matches have been won by India. Overall record might be good for Pakistan. But India always beat Pakistan on must win matches. The only time pakistan beat India in a must win game might be back in 80s when javed hit the last ball 6 in sharjah.

Afridi told that he will retire after playing the world T20. If you do not send Pak to India, Afridi will retire only after the next T20 world cup :-)

Now this guy Mr. sharif realizes it. Last week he cleared the team. But after Asia cup humilation and indian state minister's refusal to allow security for Pak team he reaccess the sutuation and tries to avoid embarrassment. Too late.

The extremist RSS & other such groups make it extremely dangerous to go & play cricket in India. The government should first get fully satisfied with the security arrangements before authorizing the team to go. In the recent past we have seen such examples of hate in the book launching by ex-foreign minister besides Indian government has refused hosting Pakistani team citing security risk.

If Pak team chooses not to come it will be be a big loss to Pak team and board as no other team will support Pak. Pakistan team will continue to play 80s style cricket and could even slip into oblivion if new teams become more powerful

Pakistan cricket will be the losers in the event Pakistan decide to walk away. You have a mix of young and old, so it will be a lost opportunity for the young to take over the mantle from the old and extremely tired players. India is a relatively safe country and to bow to pressure exerted by a very small group of people will perhaps be a victory for them. Let the bat do the talking.

They need a committee to investigate the reason for loss! Report could have been drafted before the tournament!! The reason they lost is they can't bat, they can't field, they are not fit, and they are clueless...from tactical viewpoint. The committee will also be clueless and besides too late to,do,anything except perhaps change one or,two,personal.
